Here’s a brilliant suggestion from one of my teachers, Dr. Carol Carnes.
I’m going to do it tomorrow.  If you decide to try it for a day, and you’re inspired to share what happens, I’d love to hear about it.

Dear friends,

This could be a really spectacular day.  Here is an idea to help make that happen.  Make this a “want free” day, a 24 hour retreat from feeling anything needs to change. Sure, we have deeper desires such as an end to hunger, world peace, and no more wars.  Those will remain in the background.  This simple exercise is about how we, actually, in real time, experience being us.  It is about ridding ourselves of the sense that we would rather be somewhere else, have more money, more time, more friends, more love, more of anything.

This is also not about being grateful for all we have now. That is a given. Of course we are grateful.  This is slipping into the gap between gratitude and desire.  There is an open space there, a place of real awareness, a field of being here now that is truly powerful.  So every time you catch yourself thinking “I wish, if only, I need” or any variation on that theme, pull your mind back to now, to the space where nothing needs to change.  Say “I am here, it is now, all is well.”

Frankly I have never done this. I just thought of it.  So let’s see how it goes.  Let me know what your day turns out to be.  I have a feeling we are in for a delightful experience.

Stay tuned in,
