Breathing in, I calm body and mind. Breathing out I smile. Dwelling in this present moment, I know this is the only moment.
Thich Nhat Hanh
Greetings,
We all stand in line sometimes, right? Might as well do something. I sometimes chat to the person next to me, but these days, maybe not.
Here are three things you can do while standing in line:
1. Stand discreetly on one foot, and take a subtle Tree pose. No one will notice. The Tree pose police will not show up, declaring that you can only do that in a Yoga studio, not in the Thrifty’s lineup.
Try it; you’ll be amazed at how quickly the time goes by.
Try it for a month and you’ll be even more amazed at the improvement in your balance.
2. Notice your breathing. Can you slow it down a bit? Can you lengthen your exhale a bit? Maybe that creates a sense of muscle release somewhere in your body.
Ahh…
3. Rocking. Slowly shift your weight forwards onto the balls of your feet, then back a bit onto the heels. This will exercise the muscles in your feet and lower legs, and also challenge your balance a bit.
The thing with these sorts of practices is remembering to do them. So, right now, imagine yourself in the line up. What might you do, habitually? Idly gaze at the magazines? Stand on one foot.
Do something with your phone? Breathe deeply. (While you’re at it, raise the phone so it’s in front of your face, to keep the back of your neck in a normal position.)
Look at your watch? Rock forwards and back, forwards and back.

Missing live Yoga classes? Ready to return to the studio? There’s a 7-week Gentle Yoga class series starting up in Comox on November 5, 2:00 – 3:30 p.m.
Rest assured, everyone in the room will be vaccinated.
With all good wishes for your health and wellness,
