Three Tips for Better Sleep, Part 2

Greetings,

Lately I’ve been hearing about sleep troubles from a lot of people.  And no wonder – we live in a world of unrelenting stimulation, which can be especially difficult for introverts to deal with.  (See The Introvert Advantage: How Quiet People Can Thrive in an Extrovert World, by Marti Olsen Laney.  Or Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking, by Susan Cain.)

If that stimulation isn’t adequately processed before heading to bed, it can be a major factor in keeping us awake.  Giving yourself adequate downtime can be a huge step towards sleeping better.  What’s adequate?  That depends on your age, hormones, how you process incoming information, and where you land on the introversion/extraversion continuum.

The video in this post has a few ideas on emptying our system of the day’s stimulus load, so sleep might come more easily. Thanks to Marcos Paulo Prado for sharing his photography via Unsplash.

Sweet dreams.
